Hey Hey...
So despite a few random (and
thoroughly depressing) snow showers over the
last couple of weeks... Spring finally appears
to be making it's way to the most northern
of northeast corners of New England. That said, I generally
don't ditch the snow tires officially until May
1.
Our trip to SXSW a few weeks back really put us
in the mood for the warm weather. We had an
amazing time taking in the sites and sounds of
this incredible event as we wandered around in
shorts & sandals in the perfect 80 degree TX heat. We will
definitely be making a tradition of it in the
years to come.
In addition to catching sets by tons of great
emerging bands and songwriters, we indulged in a
free outdoor concert on the picturesque banks of the
river in Austin. As the warm evening breeze
settled in and the bright lights of the city
loomed high on the horizon, we watched in awe as
one the most gifted lyricists of our time let it
fly in style to thousands of people... Ice Cube
himself. We had actually seem him hanging in a
hotel lobby the night before and felt obliged to
check out the set... the trip wouldn't have been
the same without it. I think Cube himself
said it best at the end of the gig... "And don't
let these Hollywood movies you see me in fool
you... I'm still a #$*$&%$ GANGSTER!!!" (crowd
members simultaneously erupt into crazed cheering).
I vow to use the same line onstage some day in the
latter stages of my career.
Anyway, on to the news
for April!

BACK TO
BUCKSPORT & A VISIT TO WERU

I'm always pleased when
opportunities that allow me to head back to
beautiful Midcoast Maine present themselves... especially
when they involve playing shows. I lived in the
region for a couple years after college and
spent a good deal of time writing music up there
before I started to perform regularly. I
consider it a special place for that reason.
We're going to be heading up to Bucksport, ME
this Thursday for a special show with the "Over
The Bridge" concert series at the Alamo Theater.
This will be our first show in the Midcoast area
in over a year and this is our first visit to
the Alamo Theater. If you are in the area,
please come by and check it out.
Thursday, April 10
The Alamo Theater
Bucksport, ME
8pm - $12 adv / $15 @ door
For more information visit:

We will also be stopping by WERU on our way up
to the show. WERU was more or less all that I listened to
when I lived in the area and they have been
incredibly supportive of my records over the
years so I hope you'll tune in and catch a few
live tunes.
We will be on the air Thursday, April 10 at
2:30PM

OPENING FOR RAILROAD EARTH AT TUPELO HALL!!!
 |
We are totally honored to announce that we'll be
warming up the stage for none other than
Railroad Earth in a couple of weeks! Equally
respected by fans of Bluegrass & Bonaroo,
this band is a true original and their insanely
busy summer tour schedule is a testament to
their skill and appeal.
In addition, for those of you that managed to
peruse the liner notes of "The Flame You Follow"
you will undoubtedly recognize the name Tim
Carbone (fiddler and vocalist for Railroad
Earth). We somehow managed to talk Tim into
playing on a track on the record and it
represents one of the album's high points for
me. You can hear his gorgeous fiddle work on
Track 7, "Meant To Be."
If there is one New England show to catch this
month, it's THIS one.
Thursday, April 17
Tupelo Hall
Londonderry, NH
8:00pm
$20 advance / $25 door

OPENING FOR NATALIA ZUKERMAN IN ANN ARBOR, MI!

|
We're completely thrilled to be heading out to
The Ark in Ann Arbor to open for one of the most
buzz-worthy young songwriters on the scene
today... the amazing Natalia Zukerman!!! We met
up with Natalia back in Memphis at Folk Alliance
where she completely wowed us with her fabulous songs and
guitar work. Shortly thereafter, plans were
underway for the Spooner Trio to open for her
later in May at several of her CD Release shows
(her new cd is excellent and was produced by
guitar wiz Willy Porter!). The trio will be
opening each show and then Reed and Adam will be backing
her up! These should be great gigs folks... I
hope you can check one out.
The Ann Arbor show will be slightly different in
that we'll be heading out as the "Jason Spooner
Duo"! Reed and I will be opening and then Reed
will join Natalia for her set.
Should be a blast!

FEATURED BY FISHMAN!

|
Just a heads up on a cool bit of news that came
in this month. I was notified that we are
featured as "Artist of the Month" by Fishman
Acoustic. Non-acoustic guitar geeks may not
be immediately familiar with the name but if you've
ever heard a live track by Dave Mathews, Paul
Simon, Sheryl Crow or James Taylor than you've
certainly heard Fishman's gear.
These guys are more or less the best of breed
when it comes to the black art of amplifying
acoustic instruments. I've been playing through
their gear for years and I am thrilled to be
part of the family.
To check out the feature go to:
